This week I posted on Comic Frontline about the "edgy" new Archie series. I also wrote about the 17 New 52 titles that are being cancelled. On Entertainment Fuse I posted a review of Saint Chaos #2, a comic so disturbing but with such substance I wish I had written it.
I hope everyone had a very happy holiday and is looking forward to the new year! To enter into 2015 I am currently compiling Entertainment Fuse's annual Comic Book Awards for 2014 with the help of the entire comic book section. Happy holidays to all! It's my 100th update today... woohoo! I was hoping to do something special but having just finished finals and the comic awards for 2014 coming up - let's just say, I wish there were more hours in the day! This week I posted a preview and my first impressions of Lady Killer #1 on Entertainment Fuse. Next week: I will be posting a rundown of the New 52 titles cancelled and the new Archie series coming out in 2015 on Comic Frontline. I will also be writing a review for Saint Chaos #2 on Entertainment Fuse. Here are the rest of the articles I reprinted this week: Dracula: The Company of Monsters #11 Review"Finally after all the talking, this issue brings the action with some great artwork, but a little too much seems to be going on at one time. There have been numerous characters simply added for fodder with some of the regulars having off personalities, but the story is still pretty solid." First Look: Saint Chaos"Saint Chaos is a new comic book written by Noah Dorsey (co-creator and co-writer of Non-Humans) and penciled, inked and lettered by Hungarian artist Zsombor Huszka (check out his official website here). Simon Monroe’s “death day” is almost upon him. He has hired a hitman to kill him. He only has four days left, so Monroe decides to create an alter-ego for himself, Saint Chaos, so he can do some good before he dies. Unfortunately, Monroe discovers he needs more time to live but the hitman doesn’t like to wait." Superboy #2 Review"Superboy had similar results as the second issue of Deathstroke, but with a much less disappointing effect. The first issue was interesting and the second also has it’s moments, but the art is not great and the story and characters have some major flaws." Happy #2 Review"A lot of the mystery that made me come back to this issue is answered – which makes me think writer Grant Morrison wasn’t smoking Lewis Carol’s stash like during issue one. So should you really keep reading, or does this vulgar and nonsensical second issue continue the story well enough that you’ll want to keep reading? Again, I’ll have to wait and see issue 3 before I can be sure if this series will be good or fall off it’s little horsey’s wings."
Happy holidays everyone! Finally getting in the holiday spirit around here... when I'm not studying for finals. This week I wrote an article on Comic Frontline about IDW Publishing and Yoe Books new collection, The Untold History of Black Comic Books. Here are the articles I reprinted this week: KRAK Kickstarter"The writer of Barbarian, Scott Amundson, and the artist of Milt, Joie Simmons, are coming together for their latest venture, and they need their readers help! " Happy #1 Review"This is definitely not a happy story, nor is it a children's story. So much happens in this issue that leaves me sitting there at the end wondering A) What the hell did I just read? B) What's going to happen next? and C) Did I take acid without knowing it before I read this?" Batman #699 Review"So, riddle me this. What do you get when you scrunch a two-part story in before the anniversary 700th issue of the Bat? A rushed story that had a lot of potential and still manages to be entertaining. We were introduced last issue to a new face, Sebastian Blackspell. He copied other previous super-villain fans of the series we know: Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, and a dramatic ending with Blackspell using Joker's toxins on the Riddler, and now the Riddler's disappeared. Is this the Riddler's return to super villainy? You'll have to read the comic to find out." KRAK Gets a Job Review"A robot turns into a boat and slices through a giant woman’s torso. Need it say more about how awesomely odd KRAK #1 is…? Despite it’s missed opportunities." Paul Jenkins Leaves DC and Marvel"DC Comics has lost plenty of its creative contributors since the New 52 began. There was John Rozum who left Static Shock, James Robinson who departed from Earth 2, Rob Liefeld who wrote three DC Comics titles including Deathstroke, The Savage Hawkman and Grifter. The list goes on. Now, Paul Jenkins has joined the bandwagon of people leaving DC. "
Happy Friday everybody! I can feel the holiday spirit in the air. This week on Comic Frontline I wrote about Marvel publishing some comic book based novels that feature original stories such as Deadpool: Paws. Here are the articles I reprinted this week: Mysterious Ways #1 Review"This horror title from Top Cow will feel oddly familiar to Image fans: the art, plot and dialogue are all reminiscent of one of the many series from Image which came out in the 90's. These titles ranged from downright stupid to sub-par, and sub-par is where Mysterious Ways #1 is. The art is mediocre and the characters somewhat stereotypical, but some interesting elements are introduced that make the next issue something to look forward to, if only slightly." Moriarty #8: The Lazarus Tree Review"Moriarty leaves me feeling like an incompetent oaf yet again. Our suave and arrogant detective draws confusing conclusions from thin air, the story only slightly progresses, several characters that I did not even know existed say their farewells, and we end this mostly boring but sophisticated issue with a fantastically nightmarish hallucination which almost makes the rest of the issue worth it. Unfortunately, almost is all writer Daniel Corey gets." Uproar Comics Launches Interactive Comic Book"On July 31st the Derry/Londonderry based media studio and comic book publisher Uproar Comics will be releasing the DEC (Digital Experience Comic), an app the publisher claims will bring comic books to life."
