Hey everybody! Enjoy your weekend. I've reprinted a couple of reviews and a news story for your enjoyment. I also recently posted a review of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 Volume 1 on Comic Frontline, so please check that out as well! Also, if you enjoyed my reprinted Moriarty review, you may enjoy my recent review of another series featuring Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes: Moriarty Lives, on Entertainment Fuse. Here are the articles I reprinted this week: Moriarty: The Dark Chamber #1 Review "London town has always been the perfect setting for a good detective story and this spin-off from Sherlock Holmes into the world of his arch-nemesis Moriarty is an interesting one that leaves something to be desired, but still makes me want to continue reading." Batman: The Dark Knight #5 Review "After not taking this title seriously last issue, Batman: The Dark Knight #5 has some more clichéd moments that got a little chuckle out of me, but also had moments that created a sense of intensity. But the small amount of laughs and great premise failed to make this title pay off, with the major blemish of the work being it’s poor pacing." True Blood's Second Comic Book Series "First a novel, than a hit TV-series, than a highly successful comic book that's first issue sold 47,000 copies. True Blood has vampire-lovers in their thrall with the adventures of telepathic Sookie Stackhouse and vampire Bill Compton. For the uninformed, True Blood is and will be published under the IDW logo. The second series is going to be written by Michael McMillian (an actual actor on the True Blood show – a.k.a. Reverend Steve Newlin) and Marc Andreyko with art done by Joe Corroney."

Everyone ready for the weekend? Well, enjoy some of my reprinted reviews! If you have any comments about the reviews or the site feel free to type your comments in below. Also, check out my recent article about the upcoming Image Comics series Dream Police on Comic Frontline. Here are the articles I reprinted this week: Deadlands: Death was Silent One-Shot Review "Stop me if you’ve heard this one – a mute gun slinger goes into a bar to shoot dozens of plant people with his undead brother slung over his horse with more plant people coming to… Never heard of it? Well, Deadlands: Death Was Silent has it – and much more. There are many Western horror comics and while this issue falls into a few of the clichéd pitfalls of the genre, it manages to pull itself out with numerous creative ideas. But it still has some frustrating artwork and a second story that shows just how great the first story was by making the second, a much less enjoyable story, easily pale in comparison." Doctor Who #7 Review "Doctor Who #7 is a decent addition to the sci-fi library of comics but is cluttered with problems. The issue fails to bring the same charm the popular show has with characters lacking an interesting spark. There are still great intellectual elements and the design of the Tardis and other dimensions are creative, but the overall art is not detailed enough, especially regarding the characters. Still, the story is solid and the Doctor is fun – and he's gotten himself into another mess, of course." Danger Club #1 Review "Danger Club’s premise must have intrigued everyone (including myself) into trying out the debut issue since it was a sell-out. But is it worth that status, or does the exceptional premise’s pages harbor disappointment? With so many hard-to-find elements like intriguing (but not yet in-depth) characters, silent artwork, and a unique premise, Danger Club #1 proves it is not a disappointment, but the beginning of a violent teen-hero tale that could become a worthy companion to series like Kick Ass."
I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend! A big thanks to everyone who has been coming to the site, the stats over the last couple of weeks have been great and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to pay a visit to Comic Maven's Archives! As always, if you'd like to see any changes or have anything else you'd like to share feel free to include your respectful opinion in the comments below. Here are the articles I reprinted this week: A Comic's Cover is Worth 300,000 Words... and Dollars "A cover from the famous Robinson collection (Jerry Robinson is the creator of The Joker) of comics will be coming up for auction. The comic, Detective Comics #67, only has a cover, and is expected to draw $300,000. Robinson was the artist of the cover and one of the original members of the Batman legacy, helping create the Joker and co-create the first Robin, Dick Grayson." Mara #1 Review "I know when I go back and re-read this review to edit it I will have felt I spent more time reading this than the first issue of Mara. That is how short it felt. But is it short and sweet? Not exactly." Batman: The Dark Knight #4 Review "I can not take this issue seriously. Finally, after numerous cameos, artwork focused only on beauty and a needlessly complex storyline, this issue reaches the epitome of punch-lines... and I can't wait to read more!" Hack/Slash #5 Review "Fantomah, Mystery Woman of the Jungle, returns in Hack/Slash #5 and brings an interesting self-contained story, giving us a breather from the usually very involved story arcs previously produced from the series. But if the issue’s intent was to get more readers for Hack/Slash, it failed."
This is a bit late, but better late than never, right? Hey everybody! Another great week. If you're interested in reading my latest review, I posted a review of One Hit Wonder #1 on Comic Frontline. I also posted news about Deadpool's Wedding on Entertainment Fuse. Hope to see you there! :-) Also, if there are any modifications you'd like to see made to the site, please let me know in the comments below! Here are the articles I reprinted this week: The Li'l Depressed Boy #5 Review "The “Depressed” part of The Li’l Depressed Boy really comes out in this issue as LDB laments about his supposed relationship with Jazz. The series has never been very uplifting but humor usually works itself in seamlessly. Unfortunately this issue has a problem doing that, with few jokes and almost none of them being very funny." Barbarian #3 Review "The four issue Barbarian mini-series changes drastically each issue. It started out with a free online first issue that, despite having heart behind it, was one of the worst comics I have ever read. The second issue had some improvements, with the fourth issue following the same motions as the second. The third issue, the one I'll be going into detail about today, is by far the best issue of the mini-series. The execution and some artwork problems still make the issue an average one, but do make me look forward to more from its creators in the future, because they clearly have talent and the passion to do this. Just no idea how to pace the issue – a problem all issues of Barbarian share." Fatale #1 Sells Out Before it Even Hits the Stands! "Before even hitting the shelves for release on January 4th, Fatale #1 (written by Ed Brubaker and penciled by Sean Phillips) sold out, even though it was grossly overprinted."
