I spent more time scouring the floors for the last two days at comic con than I did the previous days, so I went to fewer panels. That’s why I’m combining days three and four of my San Diego Comic Con experience into one article.

Saturday (July 23, 2016)
Before going into the panels, I wanted to talk about having my very first signing at the convention. For those who don’t know, I helped adapt episodes of the television shows Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. The physical copies of the first three issues and the TPB (collecting the "Stormy Weather," "Lady WiFi" and "Evillustrator" stories) premiered at the comic con. It was really great to be able to meet some Miraculous fans and sign copies of their books. Thanks to everyone who came out!
I was even able to briefly talk to Christina Vee (the voice of Marinette) and Carrie Keranen (the voice of Alya/Lady WiFi), which was a really nice moment.

ZAG’s Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir
This panel had many creative teams behind the show, including producer Jeremy Zag and creator Thomas Astruc. This was Astruc’s very first convention in the United States. Many members of the English voice cast were also there, including Cristina Vee (voice of Ladybug/Marinette), Keith Silverstein (Hawk Moth, Gabriel Agreste), Mela Lee (Tikki/Stormy Weather) and Carrie Keranen (Alya/Lady WiFi). The English voice director, Ezra Weiss, moderated the panel.
There were a ton of hints about the next two seasons of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. Everyone in the audience also got a free action figure of Ladybug, the first ones to come out.

For fans who have been waiting for original comic book stories about Miraculous, it was announced at the convention that the creative team of the TV show will be releasing four monthly comic book series set in the universe of Miraculous.
Miraculous, created by Zag Entertainment, was not the only show mentioned. Zag has an entire line, Zag Heroez, which will soon expand to include upcoming CGI shows like Pixie Girl and Ghostforce.
I highly recommend checking this show out, not as someone who helped work on the comic book but as a fan! The entire panel is also available to watch on Youtube:

Lighting, Lasers & Ladybugs: Creating Action Lab Comics
This panel showcased the upcoming Action Lab Entertainment comic books. As someone who works with Action Lab, I was really interested in meeting more of the creative teams from the publisher in person. The moderator was the President of Action Lab, Dave Dwonch. Panelists included Shawn Gabborin (Puppet Master, Fracture), and Reilly Leeds (Action Lab: Dog of Wonder) among many others. Many other creators were in the audience as well.

Cartoon Voices II
There were a lot of talented voice actors at this panel, including Dee Bradley Baker (Phineas and Ferb, Family Guy), Vicki Lewis (Rugrats, Finding Nemo), Fred Tatasciore (The Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness), Trevor Devall (Guardians of the Galaxy, Kid vs. Kat), and Debby Derryberry (Jimmy Neutron, Monster High). Led by Mark Evanier, the group read a script they’d never seen before aloud and constantly switched voices. It was thoroughly entertaining and an example of just what skill it takes to do cartoon voices.

Saving the Bank: Budgeting a Comic Book Project
This was a very informative panel about budgeting your comic book project. The speaker, Andy Schmidt, is the founder of Comics Experience, a service that provides comic book courses related to writing, editing, drawing, and everything else you can think of in the comic industry. Schmidt is also an editor at Marvel and IDW Publishing. He talked about how you can predict how much money you’ll need to your series and how much money you will make on it.

An important thing I learned was how much more beneficial having a shorter mini-series rather than a longer one can be. Basically, if you sell a mini-series, the first issue will usually sell the best. Each issue after that will do slightly worse. So, if the story allows, try to keep the number of issues in a mini-series low. I wouldn’t agree with this unless you can fit the story comfortably within three issues over four (or in four issues rather than five), since I think it’s important not to sacrifice the story.
Overall, the San Diego Comic Con was an amazing experience. I was expecting to buy a lot more than I did but I’m not going to complain about saving money. There were plenty of sights to see and things to learn.
