College Student Seeks to Ban Comics Required by Her English Class
Did you hear the one about the college student who wanted to get her textbook banned? I wish there was a punch line, but this is true. I generally don’t support book banning; it reminds me too much of the stories about the Nazis burning books. But the fact that this story is about an English class, which used four graphic novels as its text books, and an English major who is advocating the banning of books, well, that just blows my mind.

Peter David's Stroke
While on vacation in Florida, Peter David, a fantastic writer who’s penned both comics and novels, suffered a stroke. In a post made on David’s website by his wife, she mentioned he had trouble sleeping before the accident, had blurry vision in his right eye, drooping of one side of his face, loss of feeling in his hand and was unable to move his right leg correctly, which are all early warning signs of a stroke. He was taken to the sadistically (if unintentionally) named Celebration Hospital and was then transferred to Florida Hospital in downtown Orlando.

R.E.M. Debuting at NYCC
R.E.M. is a psychological thriller written by Ryan Colucci (Harbor Moon) and drawn by Zsombor Huska (Saint Chaos). It’s a hardcover graphic novel that is 176 pages long. This original graphic novel stars Michael Letto, a genius neuroscientist who lost the love of his life and has grown extremely paranoid. His fears are about to get worse after he invents a chair that can allow the user a full-night of sleep in mere minutes (can I have that?). Now, the military and a religious group are after his invention.

Way of the Sax Kickstarter
Started by our own Entertainment Fuse audio engineer Philip Bradbury, Way of the Sax is a three part interactive graphic novel. Not only will it be a three part story, but readers will be treated to some very innovative features including smooth fade in/out screen transitions, items to be clicked on and "collected" for an achievement system, a save option, music tailored for each panel, pseudo animation, mini-games, extra scenes, and multiple endings. Even without knowing the story I'm intrigued by these new features. It may not appeal to all comic fans who are more into the traditional comic format, but the idea that I could play mini-games while reading a comic book is surreal.
