Ron Marz's Witchblade Run Ends with Issue 150

After an almost sixteen year run beginning in November of 1995, Ron Marz 70 issue run on Witchblade will be coming to a close later this year with the final issue being Witchblade #150.  Writer Ron Marz and artist Stjepan Sejic are stepping away from the Witchblade project to work on another top secret Top Cow title.

Writer Ron Marz, who has been writing Witchblade since issue #80 (and with artist Stjepan Sejic since issue #116), has too many projects going on and has to let one go. That title is Witchblade. He will still be continuing his ongoing series Magdalena, his series for Image featuring the samurai vampire hunter Shinku, and the Top Cow event of the year Artifacts, where Sara will continue to appear. Her character is not completely gone in Top Cow continuity, but her book will be.

Marz helped turn Witchblade bearer Sara Pezzini from the classic bad girl to a more conservative girl and added many new supporting characters into the series. In talking about the feelings he has for the character, Marz said on Comic Book Resources: 

"I wrote about feeling an emotional attachment to Kyle Rayner, the Green Lantern I helped create. I feel a bit of the same for Sara Pezzini. I didn't create Sara, but hopefully I fleshed her out a bit and made her a little more real for readers. If nothing else, I've spent the last seven years with her. That's my longest relationship with a woman other than my wife. And I've enjoyed spending that time with Sara, even if it often meant making her suffer some truly unpleasant experiences. I'm going to genuinely miss Sara. I hope she'll miss me a little bit too."

I, and many other comic book fans, will be missing her too.  Until #151, of course.
