Alpha Flight Changed My Life
The first issue I read of Alpha Flight was the first comic book I read after taking a three year hiatus from light comic book collecting. I had less than twenty comics at the time, simply a casual reader that knew bare-boned facts about Batman from the animated TV series rather than the comics and did not faithfully walk into a comic store every Wednesday in need of my weekly comic book fix. Before this one issue of Alpha Flight I was more interested in other things. This one comic took my life in a completely new direction and became my favorite series – if not for the nostalgia then for the array of colorful characters and story that I feel are lacking in most comics today.

For health class we were given the focus question “How can you demonstrate strategies of how to deal with grief?” We could use any type of examples we wanted so my first thought was, like any respectable fan, my first thoughts were to delve into the world of comic books. Panel Piracy: Asking For a Different Kind of Pirate and Scanner
Try to ask a pirate or scanner to stop doing what they do is like asking me to stop collecting comic books: it’s never going to happen. Every letter criticizing pirates or scanners never hurts them. If the legality or morality of their actions really get to them, it will be their conscious, not an article, making them stop. Critical articles sometimes even fuel them on to become modern day Robin Hoods who give consumers a big corporation like DC or Marvel’s product. But those modern day robin hoods are starting to become more and more unstable. Which is why I’m asking for a different kind of pirate and scanner: a pirate who pays back and a scanner who promotes others rather than exploits them.
